Surprise! It's a Party

Surprise! It’s a Party

  1. Pick a date!

For the ultimate surprise, pick a date before the actual birthday, anniversary, or whatever special event you’re celebrating. If you pick the day of, it might not be quite as surprising as the person you’re celebrating may be expecting something that day. If you pick a date after the day of the occasion, they may feel that you forgot about the special day.

  1. Pick a familiar place

Does the person you’re celebrating have a favorite place to go to? If you choose somewhere they usually go, suspicion will be kept to a minimum. You could also choose a friend’s house, as it won’t raise suspicion if you tell them you’re headed there for dinner or a visit.

  1. Determine your guest list

Once you’ve decided on a date and a place, start your guest list. Think about who you want surrounding your special person when you’re looking around the room counting down the seconds until the big moment. Send out invites and make sure everyone knows not to spoil the surprise early. Don’t forget to tell everyone to arrive around 30 minutes prior to when the guest of honor will be arriving!

  1. Plan a theme and decorations

Everyone loves a good themed party and get excited about the opportunity to dress for the occasion. How about a Great Gatsby themed anniversary party? A casino night themed birthday party? No matter what you decide, you can’t go wrong with a themed party. After you’ve decided, it’s time to plan decorations. Amazon has a huge selection of any themed decorations you could think of, so go ahead and add to your next Amazon haul (we know you already have items in your cart waiting…).

  1. The most important part? Food

If you feed them, they will come. Seriously, though. Party food is one of the best parts of the whole shebang! Consider what type of food will go along best with your theme and go for it. Decide if you want to have the event catered or if you want to put your chef hat on and make the food yourself. Don’t forget the cake (or cookies) for a birthday party.

  1. Entertainment

When it comes to entertainment at the event, your options are endless. You could rent a karaoke machine and a dance floor for an 80’s or 90’s themed party, concession stand items such as cotton candy and popcorn machines for circus themed parties, or go all out and rent casino tables for a casino night theme party. If you decide to have an outdoor party, rent some favorite outdoor yard games and a tent with tables and chairs. Your guests will have a blast with whatever you choose!

  1. Make plans with the guest of honor

Don’t forget to make “fake” plans with the guest of honor so they don’t accidentally make other plans for the day of the event. You should tell them you are doing something that’s not out of the ordinary for something you’d normally do so as to not raise any flags. This goes back to tip #2- pick a familiar place. They won’t suspect anything if you tell them your plans are to go somewhere you’d normally go.

  1. 5...4...3...2...1...

Surprise! It's time for the big moment you've been planning for. Make sure everyone is clear on what the plan is and be prepared to enjoy the look on their face when the big reveal happens.

That’s it! If you follow these steps, your surprise party will go off without a hitch.
